At Otago Vision Specialist, we are deeply committed to education and the ongoing professional development of our wider eye-care and healthcare community. We actively support and deliver high-quality CPD opportunities for nurses, optometrists, family doctors, registrars, and students, recognising that shared learning leads to better patient outcomes. Through teaching, collaboration, and mentorship, we aim to foster excellence, strengthen clinical partnerships, and contribute to a culture of lifelong learning across the region.
Intraocular lenses, Social ethics, Epiphora
Join us for In Focus: I SEE — an evening of practical ophthalmic education, discussion, and modern perspectives in eye care.
The programme will explore modern cataract surgery techniques, refractive correction, and the latest innovations in intraocular lens technology, including presbyopia-correcting IOLs and contemporary approaches to achieving greater spectacle independence following cataract surgery.
For the first time, we are also delighted to welcome an external guest speaker, Wilhelmina O’Keeffe. With more than 16 years of experience across media, radio, television, podcasts, and digital platforms — including TVNZ, RadioLive, Today FM, and Newshub — Wilhelmina will lead a thoughtful discussion on the evolving role of media, social media, and ethics in clinical care. This is a highly relevant and increasingly important topic within modern private healthcare.
We are also privileged to have Dr Mimi Chiu, esteemed Oculoplastic & Ocular Oncologist, presenting on epiphora — a common but often challenging condition. Her session will cover differential diagnoses, clinical pearls, diagnostic approaches, and management strategies.
The event will be held both in person at the beautiful Distinction Hotel Dunedin and online for attendees unable to travel.
